Well, after weeks speculation the New York Times finally drops their expose on Governor David Paterson… Jeez, it is not pretty. Remember the whispers about a blockbuster NYTimes story? well they were true…
The story is primarily about a Paterson aide who the NYTimes initially profiled last week, David Johnson. Evidently, Mr. Johnson has a history of alleged violence against women, and this case involves Gov. Paterson trying to play clean-up directly.
It’s the classic cover-up as more damaging than the crime. More info after the jump…
The article has the basic framework that the initial leaks discussed:
1.) Andrew Cuomo (and/or associates ) likely feeding the article
On Wednesday night, in response to inquiries from The New York Times, a senior administration official said Mr. Paterson would request that Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo investigate his administration’s handling of the matter.
2.) Governor Paterson trying to save an official from prosecution.
Then early this month, days before she was due to return to court to seek a final protective order, the woman got a phone call from the governor, according to her lawyer. She failed to appear for her next hearing on Feb. 8, and as a result her case was dismissed.
Many details of the governor’s role in this episode are unclear, but the accounts presented in court and police records and interviews with the woman’s lawyer and others portray a brutal encounter, a frightened woman and an effort to make a potential political embarrassment go away. Read it @NYTimes
Well, NYTimes absolutely does have a blockbuster story, likely spoon-fed by Cuomo. Unfortunately, this is really an unforced error by Gov. Paterson, the aide had to go.
