Harold Ford Selfish Hack (Oh and Katrina Happened because of Social Issues)

Harold Ford Selfish Party Hack

(Ford isn’t even a partisan loyalist, he really is only concerned with having a position IN the establishment).

We all know politicians (and even their families) have monstrous egos. From the average do-gooder running for local office, up to the presidential races, all the entrants believe that they can do the job — or even worse are running for office for the publicity (Al Sharpton, Carol Mosely-Braun, Ron Paul, Mike Gravel).

My all time favorite is Alan Keyes, who has run for president in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2008 as well as been a Republican nominee for senate (in various states) in 1988, 1992, and 2004.

Even in the case of those who are capable and well-positioned, it takes a special sort of person to believe they can convince others to support their candidacy. So, in general the ego works to the politicians advantage; however, there is a point at which the ego becomes self-defeating.

It is extraordinarily difficult for a candidate to move into a state where they have very little attachment, and attempt to run for a coveted federal position like the U.S. Senate. You need a significant amount of national fund-raising prowess, in-state support and strong party support, along with strong constituency support from some sector of the state (business, ethnic, rural, religious — something) in order to get your feet on the ground to begin a campaign. As a result of these difficulties, you are really starting a long race 25% behind the starting line.

Enter Harold Ford, stage left.

Harold Ford and his massive ego thought that he could come into New York and push Kristen Gillibrand out of the race (a native New Yorker, with a family of politicos).

a.) Ford spent 7 weeks campaigning in New York — Gillibrand was a congresswoman in upstate New York in a strongly Republican district. Ford is amazingly condescending toward Gillibrand’s knowledge of New York. (ego)

b.) Scarborough is a nut. He complains about abortion and gay marriage as a social issue; yet, it is those on the right who think about it as a critical issue. GWB campaigned in 2004 on constitutional amendments to dictate social policy. He’s also disingenuous and frankly not too smart. According to Morning Joe Katrina happened because of social issues.

1.) Brutal Primary Fight (bull spit) — strengthens a Republican (bull spit). Ford was down more than 20 points, and all his campaigning actually strengthened Gillibrand’s brand by attacking her from the left.

2.) Why Albany, DC are broken — Um ok, yeah that’s standard info, worse Ford didn’t bother to say what he would do differently from Kiristen Gillibrand other than he was Harold Ford.

Update I
Hilarious poll by Harold Ford for New Yorkers.

And it appeared to assess possible campaign themes and slogans. The poll sought feedback on claims that Mr. Ford is a “national leader” of African-Americans; a young leader in the style of President Obama; as somebody with a bold plan to revitalize the economy; and as independent of the dysfunction in Albany.
