Black Women in History
While the role of African Americans in the history of the United States has received more attention in recent years, the place of the Black women has often been overlooked. However, since the days of slavery, Black women have been making important contributions that should not be forgotten.
Harriet Tubman helped free slaves as a part of the Underground Railroad, and Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her bus seat sparked the fire which ended segregation. Shirley Chisolm used her position in Congress to fight for minority rights, and later even ran for President.
Black women and all Americans should be proud of the accomplishments of these role models whose efforts have enriched all of our lives.
While the original pages are no longer available, in the near future we will be adding information on Black women in history to this page.
