Juan Williams Carries Water for Fun and Profit.

admin | October 26th, 2010 - 2:21 pm

This is pretty hilarious — at one point Mr. Williams actually says “NPR called me names” (paraphrase) which of course, if you watch “The Factor” (NetNoir watches in-context clips only lol!) is pretty much O’Reilly’s stock and trade. O’Reilly literally has a “pinhead” award for people he disagrees with — aside from the fact that O’Reilly stalks people he disagrees with, which is just plain creepy.

Cash in while you can Mr. Williams.

Latest in Bishop Eddie Long Saga

admin | October 12th, 2010 - 10:35 am

There have been numerous stories about the charges against Eddie Long in both the news media and blogosphere. However, even while Long is accused of horrible acts, It is important to note that the legal action against him has been civil in nature, and not criminal.

The Atlanta JOurnal Constitution has the latest lawsuit against Bishop Long in a new exclusive article:

The suit filed Monday asked the DeKalb County State Court to order Long and the others to pay off the debt in 10 days or incur additional fines and attorneys’ fees.

This is the fifth lawsuit filed against the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church leader in less than a month. The other four suits, which were also filed against the DeKalb County megachurch, accuse Long of coercing four young men into sex in exchange for cars, lavish trips and jobs. The AJC is the only media outlet to obtain the latest suit.

Anderson Cooper is Encouraging More Oil Disasters

admin | June 19th, 2010 - 3:14 am

I’m starting to get disgusted with CNN’s lopsided coverage of the oil spill.

Rather than examining the claims of different parishes, and comparing their claims to the reality of the situation, they have descended into a non-stop complaints and foolish emotion-heavy vignettes with very few actual bits of information.

New plans, new machines, and new ideas are great; however, do they actually work? Anderson Cooper rarely asks if the proposed technology is actually affective and if the technology is actually worth the time and effort. Additionally given the volitale nature of both oil and toxic chemicals, he doesn’t bother to back-up the Coast Guards concerns that the ships might be incredibly dangerous given the oil, toxic fumes and electronic equipment (I would think this would be an obvious concern).

At the same time LA Republicans are complaining about the response, CNN seems to ignore the role that Republicans — particularly Bobby Jindal had in creating the current regulations on the books. The current regulations place a significant amount of the planning and expertise behind the clean-ups in the hands of oil companies like BP. In fairness to BP, the congressional testimonees showed that every single major company relied on similar clean-up plans.

As a result, the same people complaining about the response by both BP, the Coast Guard, the Federal Government, allow no burden on the state and local government who have both pushed for expanded drilling without regard to safety (before the BP spill), and now are pushing for drilling to continue without any sort of review of existing platforms.

Anderson Cooper’s show is particularly egregious, as he both shamelessly panders to local officials, without bothering to critique the fact that they are the main people pushing for more offshore drilling.

Video from PBS News Hour U.S. Navy Joins Oil Clean Up

admin | April 29th, 2010 - 11:54 pm

BP has finally admitted to the real size of the oil leak, and the estimate that 4 million barrels of oil could potentially be leaked before a relief well can be drilled. The situation has become so bad that the U.S. Navy is now getting involved to ensure that damaged is minimized. The political ramifications are clear, the “drill here drill now,” and “drill baby drill” chants are likely to be seriously diminished in the wake of this environmental disaster.

Which RNC Member Expensed a Strip Club Visit under Michael Steele’s Tenure

admin | March 29th, 2010 - 1:30 pm

In spite of theGrio.com’s attempt at inflating Michael Steele’s tenure as the Republican National Committee chairman, I have always had my doubts about the ability for Steele to focus on the RNC as opposed to his on “career” as a political operative.

Once on the ground, FEC filings suggest, Steele travels in style. A February RNC trip to California, for example, included a $9,099 stop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, $6,596 dropped at the nearby Four Seasons, and $1,620.71 spent [update: the amount is actually $1,946.25] at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex.

RNC trips to other cities produced bills from a long list of chic and costly hotels such as the Venetian and the M Resort in Las Vegas, and the W (for a total of $19,443) in Washington. A midwinter trip to Hawaii cost the RNC $43,828, not including airfare.

Jonathan Strong@TheDailyCaller [Emphasis added]

Greg Sargent @ theplumline.whorunsgov.com has a LaTimes article on Voyeur West Hollywood that describes the “intense” atmosphere.

While the RNC has said the person who spent the thousand+ at a bondage strip club was a “non-committee staffer,” they have yet to identify them.  So much for family values.  Other goodies from the Daily Caller piece — Steele had thoughts about buying a private jet.  These spending embarrassments have been a consistent under Steele’s tenure, sorry theGriot.com Steele is far from a success at the RNC.

Breathtaking Hypocrisy by Orin Hatch on the Republican Mandate Idea

admin | March 26th, 2010 - 11:54 am

Orin Hatch said he supported a mandate in 1993 for individuals to buy health care. Remember the mandate was a Republican economists idea, and further refined by the conservative Heritage Foundation. In addition, it has come to light that the conservative American Enterprise Institute restricted their health care experts from contributing because too many of them agreed with the proposed Obamacare plan.

Watch at the 5 minute mark on:

h/t thepage.time.com

Plus this is a ridiculous lie, everyone has to buy (invest) in social security.

Clarence Thomas Wife is a Tea Party Activist

admin | March 14th, 2010 - 9:15 pm

The Los Angeles Times has an amazingly detailed article that describes the extraordinarily high degree of  political activity of by Virginia Thomas.

She’s gone from participating in the George W. Bush administration, to creating a Tea Party affiliated 501c4 non-profit organization.

As a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, Liberty Central can raise unlimited amounts of corporate money and largely avoid disclosing its donors. LATimes

[LibertyCentral.org is the name of the organization]

Unfortunately, the article attempts to compare Pennsylvania’s governor Democrat Ed Rendell’s wife, who is an elected judge, to the relationship between between Virginia Thomas and her SCOTUS serving husband.  Obviously, comparing a federal judge of less consequence (and subject to both review and reversal) to a Supreme Court Justice with a lifetime appointment is not adequate.

John Conyers Wife Monica Conyers Sentenced the Three Years Prison Time

admin | March 10th, 2010 - 6:27 pm

Founding Congressional Black Caucus member John Conyers (D-Mich.) wife Monica Conyers has been found guilty of corruption and has been sentenced to three years in prison.

h/t TalkingPointsMemo.com

onyers suggested that she was the victim of “badgering” last summer when she acknowledged a conspiracy to take bribes for her support of a Houston company seeking a sludge contract. U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn says her plea deal was voluntary.

Conyers is the wife of Democratic U.S. Rep. John Conyers. She quit the council in June.

Prosecutors also want the judge to consider allegations that Conyers and an aide collected $69,500 from people seeking help from the city. Her lawyer denies the claims.

I don’t understand how these people believe they will not be caught.
